Your first day
Your first day
Where to go and when
Our office is at 1200 Bluebonnet Lane, Suite 400, Austin, TX 78704. Come in at 10:00 a.m. on your first day — later than our normal start on purpose, so you're not fighting the morning rush or walking into a room where everyone is already heads-down.
Check in at the front desk on the fourth floor and give your name. Someone from People Ops will meet you there and walk you to your desk.
If you're joining a fully remote role, you'll get a calendar invite for a video call at the same time instead, and your laptop will have arrived the week before.
What to bring
You'll complete your I-9 employment eligibility verification on day one, and that requires original documents — photocopies and photos on your phone don't count. Bring either:
- One document from List A: a U.S. passport, or a permanent resident card, or
- One document from List B and one from List C: usually a driver's license plus a Social Security card or a certified birth certificate.
Bring your voided check or a bank letter too, if you'd rather set up direct deposit on paper than type your routing number into Gusto.
If you're missing something, tell People Ops before your start date rather than on the day. There's a legal deadline attached to this form and it's much easier to plan around than to fix. See "New hire paperwork" for the full picture.
How the day goes
The morning is paperwork and setup. You'll finish your I-9 and W-4, enroll in direct deposit, and sign your confidentiality and IP agreements. IT will hand you your laptop, get you into Okta, and turn on multi-factor authentication with you rather than emailing you instructions.
After lunch you'll meet your team, and you'll have your first 1:1 with your manager. That conversation is about what your first month looks like — not a test, and not a place you're expected to have opinions about the roadmap yet.
By the end of the day you should have: a signed offer acknowledgment on file, a building badge, a laptop, your Daisy email, and access to Slack and Notion. If any of that is missing, say so. It isn't normal and it's fixable the same day.
Your badge
Your permanent badge is printed during your first day. Until it's ready, the front desk will give you a temporary one. If you forget or lose your badge later, come to the front desk with a photo ID and they'll issue a day pass.
Lunch
Lunch is an hour, and when you take it is up to you — most of the team goes somewhere between noon and 1:30. There's a café on the ground floor and about a dozen places within a five-minute walk. The fourth-floor kitchen has a fridge, a microwave, and a coffee machine; coffee, tea, and snacks are on the company.
Parking and getting here
The garage under the building is badge-access once your badge is active; on day one, park in visitor spaces on level P1 and the front desk will validate. If you'd rather not drive, the company covers a commuter benefit — see "Other benefits" for how to enroll.
If something goes wrong
If you can't find the office, can't get in, or your manager isn't there, call or text People Ops at the number in your offer email. Nobody expects you to stand in a lobby and wait it out.
